The collection consists of the correspondence of Sidney Samuel Thomas, a sergeant in the United States Army. The majority of the correspondence consists of letters written by Thomas while serving as a cryptographer in Cayenne, French Guiana to his mother, Mrs. S.S. Thomas, his sister, Mrs. Sybil Gunn, and his aunt, Mrs. J.H. McGraw. In his letters, Thomas describes his duties as a cryptographer, his daily routine, army life, as well as family and community issues in Athens. There is some mention of war news and politics, as well as numerous references to popular movies and books of the era. Also included are postcards, two scrapbooks, and some theater programs.

The collection consists of a selection of transcripts from the Manila war crimes tribunals, paginated 3029-3087, documenting the questioning and testimony of the accused, General Masaharu Homma. While his trial lasted about five weeks, this portion of transcripted material appears to cover the proceedings of February 5, 1946. The Caldwell papers represent the emergence of the modern executive philosophy guiding the modern State University. Because, for the first time, a filing schema has survived intact, there has been no need for reorganization of the papers to facilitate user access, and the original provenance has thus been more or less preserved. The papers break down into four broad series as follows: Series 1: Administrative Subject/Correspondence File 1927-1949. This series encompasses the fullest scope of Caldwell's myriad duties as University President, and comprises 75% by bulk of the volume of the collection. Included are extended subseries treating the University building program, the "Cocking Affair", the higher education of blacks in Georgia, the emerging Landscape Architecture program, the increasing role of agricultural research in the postwar South, the early standardization of Senior Class rings, the emergence of the University Center in Georgia, the vitality of the newly created University of Georgia Press, and the WPA Georgia Writers Project. Series 2: Board of Regents Files 1932-1949. This series documents interactions between Caldwell as University President and the state Board of Regents. Series 3: Wartime Administrative Files, 1940-1948. This series follows the multiple hats which Caldwell wore in his various roles in support of America's involvement in World War II. It is further organized into separate sub-series covering the following specific functions: Civilian Defense/Selective Service/U.S. Armed Forces/War Program/Army Specialized Training Corps/Navy Training School/Personnel-Savannah Unit. Series 4: UGA Personnel Files 1937-1950. This is an alpha-ordered set of University personnel files for the indicated years (it is not comprehensive).

This collection contains Claude Williams, Jr.'s papers related to his businesses in Athens, Georgia, his military training and service during World War II, and his uncle Herbert Williams' military service during World War I. The business records mainly pertain to Georgia Outdoor Advertising's purchase of other advertising companies as well as the board of directors' meeting minutes. Material related to Herbert Williams' service as a volunteer ambulance driver in the American Field Service during World War I include a photograph album, copies of the "American Field Service Bulletin", maps of France, and his medals. Much of the papers pertaining to Claude Williams' serivice during World War II are training materials and his notes from the United States Army Infantry School at Fort Benning near Columbus, Georiga. Also included are some Williams family photographs and a book on the family's history focused on Claude and his wife Charlotte. Note that box 1 folders 1-2 contain material written in French.

The M.H. Mitchell, Inc 94th Infantry Divisoin Collection consists of original World War II correspondence; 94th Division Association minute books, financial papers, organization records, and member lists; printed materials including reunion prograpms, divisional histories, newsletters, and manuals; scrapbooks; photographs; artifacts including medals, ephemera, flags, and uniforms; and subject files. A large portion is dedicated to the 94th Infantry Commemorative History book and the 94th Infantry Division Association. Much of the collection revolves around veterans' activities. This series contains correspondence reflecting on World War II and the 94th. Folders often include obituaries and memorials about 94th veterans. The vast majority are letters are from the 1980s-1990s to Robert Cassel regarding his upcoming book about the 94th Infantry in World War II. The writings series contain mostly memoirs of 94th Infantry soldiers after their World War II service. There are a few collected anecdotes from Cassel's book and several compliations of veterans' memoirs from their infantry service. There is a large subseries related to the book, "Patton's Ghost Corps" by Nathan Prefer. This includes a sizeable amount of Prefer's original research material. The media series is housed in the Walter J. Brown Media Archives. The items include an extensive number of videotapes and DVDs, focusing on reunions, the 94th Division's overseas campaigns, and veterans.

The collection consists of papers of Kate Harben Jones from 1922-1947. Includes corrected typescripts of Jones' essays, short stories, and reminiscences; photographs of the Jones family; correspondence; and v-mail. Most of the correspondence (1933-1945) consists of letters to Jones from her son, Herbert F. Jones, during his military service in World War II. Herbert wrote from Fort Riley (Kan.), Camp Gordon (Ga.), Fort Dix (N.J.), and Fort Pierce (Fla.) describing his military training, military service clubs, and the local areas. After being shipped overseas (1944), Herbert wrote from England, Germany, and France describing the area, the people and their reaction to American military troops, the Normandy invasion, reconnaissance patrols, wounds he received, his medical treatment, and military activity after Germany's surrender. The correspondence also contains letters to Kate Jones from other family members and literary acquaintances.
